OC alumna, Katie Morris (01), was recently featured in an article in the Norman Transcript about the singing, dancing and acting academy, ArtWorks, that she will open later this summer with her family:

A new singing, dancing and acting academy opening soon in Norman is looking for kids from 2 to 18 to act their hearts out for a performance of “High School Musical.”

ArtWorks Academy, opening this monthat 1225 W. Lindsey St., has already started enrolling students of all ages and abilities, director of music Katie Morris said.

Students ages 8 to 18 can audition for a role in “High School Musical,” which hits the stage Jan. 10-12 at Oklahoma City Community College.

“We’ve already seen a lot of interest,” Morris said. “We’re excited. It’s going to be a great show with a great moral to it.”

Not only will ArtWorks Academy produce a musical, it also will offer classes in singing, dancing and acting for all ages. Morris said classes for young children will be offered Wednesday mornings, including the creative movement class, the creative dramatics class and the pre-school dance class.

There are classes for all ages and ability levels, including introduction to music, ballet, tap, jazz and musical theater. A full schedule of classes, tuition and other information can be found at the academy’s Web site, www.artworksacademy.com.

Morris said online enrollment also is already available. For more information, call the academy at 397-1824.

Katie Morris began performing at the age of 7, and has since performed in nearly 50 plays and musicals, according to the academy’s Web site. Her performance credits include many local, regional and university productions. Katie graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts in communication studies with an emphasis in theatre, as well as a minor in youth ministry from Oklahoma Christian University. She has continued her education post-college, taking classes in education, child development, speech and hearing mechanisms and language development. Katie has served as the musical director for several musicals, and has also taught musical theatre and voice lessons to children for four years. Recently, she served for five years as event coordinator at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City.
