OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (June 15, 2010) – Oklahoma Christian athletic
alumni Sunny Golloway, Sherri Coale, and Sam Winterbotham each came away
with exceptional coaching seasons this year at the NCAA Division I
Golloway, head coach of the University of Oklahoma baseball team,
just won the 2010 Charlottesville Super Regional and earned a ticket to
the College World Series to be held on June 20, against South Carolina.
The World Series appearance is the 10th in program history for the
Sooners and is the first since 1995.
OU women’s head basketball coach, Sherri Coale, took her team to the
final four of the NCAA tournament earlier this spring for the program’s
third appearance, all from Coale’s era. The Sooners came into their
second consecutive appearance at the national semifinals and ended their
season 27-11 with a 73-66 loss from Stanford. The OU women have made 11
straight appearances at the NCAA tournament under coach Coale.
Winterbotham, the men’s head tennis coach for the Tennessee
Volunteers, led his team to the NCAA championships this spring. In just
four years with the Vols, Winterbotham has claimed 94 victories. For
2010, the Vols went 31-2 for the second most wins in a season in program
history. The Vols lost 4-2 to Southern California at the NCAA
Championships leaving a title just out of reach for Tennessee. The
championship appearance was the third in history for the Vols.
