Allen, Lashley Named to Alumni Relations Positions

Kent Allen has been named vice president of alumni relations at
Oklahoma Christian University. Bob Lashley was named executive director
of alumni relations.
Allen has served as a major gifts officer for Oklahoma Christian.
Before joining Oklahoma Christian in 2008, he was the director of
operations for Continent of Great Cities. CGC is a ministry that places
missionary teams throughout the Latin world. Allen led campaigns to
England, Kenya, Zimbabwe, the Bahamas, Brazil, and Poland. Before his
role at CGC, he was a minister at Memorial Road Church of Christ for 25
years and the pulpit preacher for 14 years.
He served on the Board of Trustees at Oklahoma Christian.
"We felt this was a great opportunity, with someone of Kent’s
ability and reputation available, to add emphasis to our alumni
relations,” said Dr. Mike O’Neal, president. "Kent will bring
tremendous energy, zest for Oklahoma Christian, and years of
relationships to the alumni relations program. Bob Lashley has been
with OC for more than 36 years and is well known and loved by our
alumni, faculty and staff as well as many others in the community and
John deSteiguer, vice president of advancement, said, "The
university’s leadership is convinced that the time is right to make
alumni efforts a top priority. As a 60 year old institution, the number
of alumni has grown dramatically over the years. OC’s alumni are
leaders literally around the globe in business, education, and
religion, and they are making a difference everywhere.
"As the vice president for alumni relations, Kent will bring vision,
strategy, and strong relationship building skills to the university’s
overall effort to connect with and engage our alumni,” deSteiguer said.
"Well-respected and widely known and admired, Kent’s impact will be
great and long-lasting.
"Bob Lashley, the executive director of alumni relations, is
uniquely equipped to advance the university in its alumni efforts,”
said deSteiguer. "With years of emphasis in working with others in the
OC community – students, parents, donors, and alumni—Bob knows almost
everyone associated with the university and he has mastered how to
connect with others and how to make things work.
"Amy Gower will continue to serve as the Alumni Relations
coordinator – a position in which she has excelled – her people skills
and attention to detail are second to none,” deSteiguer said.
"As alumni themselves, Kent, Bob and Amy will be an outstanding team
ensuring that the university is focused on one of its greatest
resources, our alumni.”
Carol Copeland, president of the OC National Alumni Council, said,
"The National Alumni Council welcomes the opportunity to work with Kent
and Bob and knows that all of our alumni will benefit from their
leadership in these new roles. They have a deep commitment and
allegiance to the life of Oklahoma Christian University and will help
provide the broader efforts to implement the NAC vision of engaging all
of our alumni across the world.”
Originally from Wichita, Kansas, Allen graduated from Oklahoma
Christian in 1979 with a degree in Bible. Kent and his wife, Phyllis,
have two sons, Kelly and Kory, both OC grads who played basketball for
the OC Eagles.
Bob Lashley, who served as director of special events, graduated
from Oklahoma Christian and has filled many key roles as a member of
the staff. Bob and his wife, Judy, have two children, Andy and Aubrie
Ross, also OC alumni.
