EDMOND, Okla. (Dec. 10, 2009) – The local senior center located in Edmond, Okla. received a gift of 1000 dollars from the Oklahoma Christian athletic department on Tuesday, Dec. 8 generated from admission fees and donations.

Recently the state announced that it would cut funding from the senior center in Edmond, Okla., a center that provides three meals a day to nearly 70 senior citizens. The meals cost about $2.50 apiece and with cuts in funding the senior center would be unable to feed the seniors.

Edmond mayor, Patrice Douglas, informed Oklahoma Christian Athletic Director, Curits Janz, and in turn the athletic community decided to reach out. From Dec. 3 to Dec. 7, three double header women’s and men’s basketball games took place in the Nest. All proceeds from admission costs to these games were set aside in addition to donations that were accepted throughout in order to present the Edmond senior center with a monetary gift of additional funding.

On Tuesday of this week, Curtis Janz presented Mayor Douglas with a check of 1000 dollars to be given to the senior center and their meal program. The money will help the senior center continue to serve Edmond’s senior citizens.
