EDMOND, Okla. (Oct. 26, 2009) – Oklahoma Christian had nearly 130 athletes and coaches participate in the 2009 Make A Difference Day in Edmond, Okla. this past Saturday. OC athletes from many different teams were present and helped improve the recreational facilities at Edmond's Mitch Park.
Wanting to get his athletes involved in the community, Oklahoma Christian Athletic Director, Curtis Janz went to OC alum and Edmond Mayor, Patrice Douglas. Mayor Douglas gave Janz the information concerning the Make a Difference Day, which was then passed on to the coaches and athletes at OC.
The Make a Difference idea was well received as nearly 130 OC athletes participated in the event completing various projects to help improve and restore some of Edmond's little league athletic facilities. Baseball, softball, and rugby fields were all addressed along with the disc golf course and trails at the Bickham-Rudkin Dog Park.
Numerous recreational facilities were given a facelift by the athletes and the Edmond community will experience the difference in upcoming months. “The athletes from Oklahoma Christian made a difference in Edmond, not only by the huge numbers that turned out to help, but also by their attitudes of servant leadership,” said Mayor Douglas. “They worked hard, were kind to the kids working with them, and were positive examples to younger athletes.”
