Former National Football League star Archie Manning will be the featured speaker at Oklahoma Christian University’s seventh annual Associates’ Dinner on March 26 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. The dinner recognizes key supporters of the university. Past speakers have included Ken Blanchard, Ken Starr, Ambassador Paul Bremer, Michael Medved, Gene Stallings and others

Manning, well known for his football accomplishments and those of his sons Peyton and Eli, now devotes much of his time to civic and charitable organizations. His community activities include Louisiana Special Olympics, the New Orleans Area Boy Scout Council, the Salvation Army, United Way and others. For 25 years, he hosted four Archie Manning Cystic Fibrosis benefit golf tournaments.

After an All-American and college Hall of Fame career at the University of Mississippi, Manning was the second player chosen in the 1971 NFL draft, the first player taken by the New Orleans Saints. He set Saints passing records, played in two Pro Bowls and was named the NFL Most Valuable Player in 1978. He retired after a 15 year career in 1985.

While in pro football, Manning received the Byron “Whizzer” White Humanitarian Award, the Bart Starr Humanitarian Award, the Spirit of Good Sports Award from the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association and the U.S. Jaycees named him one of 10 Outstanding Young Americans. He recently received the Silver Buffalo, the Boy Scouts of America’s highest award. He was also selected as the Father of the Year by the National Father’s Day Council.

Manning currently serves in public relations and consulting capacities for several local, regional and national companies, including Reebok, Gatorade, AstroTurf, Direct TV and CBS Sports.
