In conjunction with the laptop upgrade, junior finance major Kari Briggs created a product to keep students' new laptops in good condition.

Brigg's idea stemmed from the e-mail offering the original Applesacs to students. Briggs decided to put her own twist on the product by designing laptop covers with club colors and club Greek letters on them.

"This is a great way for everyone involved in club to be able to show some more club pride," Briggs said.

Briggs recommends getting new club members laptop covers for rush next semester.

Not only is this product for club members but also for those who aren't involved in club.

For freshmen, Briggs is offering other alternatives. The laptop covers can be personalized with students' names or custom designed to something Briggs can do.

These laptop covers aren't only a great way to start of the next year looking fashionable, but the laptop covers are going to be made to custom fit the Macbooks, Macbook Pros and even the Dells.

Briggs is going to be selling the covers for $12 until Wednesday of finals week, if paid in person.

After Wednesday, the covers will only be available for purchase via Briggs' website, and the price will increase to $13.

Those interested can e-mail Briggs at kari.briggs@oc.edu, and she will send back an order form to be filled out. Briggs has also set up a blog with pictures and more information on the product. The blog is set up in a way in which students will be able to post under their clubs and tell Briggs what they would like to order.  The blog address is http://karisclubcovers.blogspot.com/.

She currently has 25 orders and a large amount of people interested in purchasing one.  One laptop cover takes about 45 minutes to make. Briggs already has four made with different designs which she uses for examples to show people who are interested. She will be going to various club meetings and showing her product in hopes for many more orders.

Briggs' summer will involve making all the laptop covers, so they will be ready the first week school starts up.

Students who wish to have them sooner to keep their new laptops scratch free can e-mail Briggs with their address and an extra shipping fee, and she will have them mailed before the summer is over.

Some people might want to spend their summer in other ways, but sewing is something Briggs loves.

She started sewing when she was in fourth grade, and she entered a 4-H sewing contest with a homemade pillow.

From there, her interest only grew stronger. Today, her room is full of homemade pillows, dresses, quilts and purses, and she has also been involved in making Gamma Rho's Spring Sing costumes for the past two years.

"I grew up going to visit my grandmother for a month every summer, and she makes quilts. For that whole month, we would work together making beautiful quilts," Briggs said. "I have fond memories of working together and learning from her."

Junior Jordan Marceau was one of the first to place an order with Briggs and is very excited to own one of the laptop covers.

"Twelve dollars isn't a lot for a lifetime of happiness," Marceau said.

Marceau also thinks the covers will be a great way to show club spirit and hopes many students will take up the offer. She plans on purchasing one with her club, Pi Zeta Phi, on it.

"The covers are going to be really professionally done," Marceau said. "Kari really knows what she's doing."
