OC announced recently that Dr. Nathan Mellor has been named vice president for community engagement and chief of staff. The university also announced the addition of two advancement officers, Kent Allen and Jo Griffin.

Mellor, who is currently executive director of the Academy for Leadership & Liberty on the OC campus, will continue in that role, but will take on additional responsibilities for building meaningful relationships with community and church leaders throughout the world. Other responsibilities include developing and implementing OC's communications and image strategies, representing the president’s office in developing effective church relations and assisting in developing and communicating strategic vision and plans.

Mellor joined Oklahoma Christian in 2006 and has served as an assistant professor of leadership in the university’s School of Business Administration. As executive director of the Academy, he oversees several major programs, including Oklahoma Leadership Academy, Business Week OC, Peace Through Business Rwanda, The Southwest Youth Leadership Conference, the Hatton W. Sumners Distinguished Speaker Series and the newly launched $10 million Heart of America Campaign to revitalize Enterprise Square and expand OC’s 50-year commitment to free enterprise, liberty, and leadership education.

Prior to joining OC, Mellor was assistant director for strategic planning at Pepperdine University School of Law’s highly ranked Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution from 2004 to 2006. Before moving to Pepperdine, he was the pulpit minister of the Hixson Church of Christ in Chattanooga, Tenn., which almost doubled in attendance during his five years there. From 1995 to 1999, he served as graduate assistant to the president and then as assistant director and co-founder of the Institute for Church and Family at Harding University.  He holds a BA and MSE from Harding University and the MDR from the Pepperdine School of Law and recently completed the EdD in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology.

Mellor and his wife, Christie, have two children and reside in Edmond. They are members of the Memorial Road Church of Christ.

Allen joins Oklahoma Christian as an advancement officer and will be responsible for fund raising for the university in general with special attention to College of Biblical Studies, athletics and other areas.

Allen previously was at the Continent of Great Cities in Dallas where he was director of operations for the mission-support organization that recruits and trains teams for Central and South America. Prior to joining the Continent of Great Cities in 2006, he was pulpit minister at the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Oklahoma City for 25 years.  During that time, the church’s membership grew from less than 1,000 to more than 2,500 and is one of the largest churches of Christ in the U.S.

Allen is an Oklahoma Christian alumnus and a former member of the OC Board of Trustees.  He and his wife, Phyllis, have two sons, Kelly and Cory, who graduated from OC.  They will be relocating to the Oklahoma City area in the near future.

Griffin joined Oklahoma Christian last fall as an advancement officer with primary responsibilities for raising funds for the College of Arts and Sciences.  Prior to joining OC, she served as associate director of corporate & foundation relations at the University of Georgia.  From 1997 to 2003, she was region director, supply chains solutions, with PREMIER, INC of Charlotte, N.C., where she was responsible for implementing more than 750group purchasing contracts in more than 40 institutions in the Southeast.

Griffin is a cum laude graduate of Abilene Christian University where she received a B.S. degree in Psychology.  She resides in Edmond and attends the Memorial Road Church of Christ.
