OC Alumnus Killed in Plane Crash
Wednesday, March 5, 2008
The OC community was very saddened to learn of the death of Rick Sandoval, a 1990 graduate of Oklahoma Christian, in a private plane crash in Oklahoma City yesterday. Also killed in the crash was Tim Hartman, a second cousin of Kent Hartman, our missionary-in-residence. Sandoval and Hartman were pilots of a Cessna 500 Citation 1 that lost control about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday and crashed in a wooded area about five miles southwest of Wiley Post Airport, officials said. As many as five people died in the crash.
Rick Sandoval was very active in the Weatherford (OK) Church of Christ. He and wife Monika have three children: Hannah, Luke and Julia Sandoval.
"He was very meticulous, thought things out very well," said David Duncan, minister at the Memorial Church of Christ in Houston. "He was a planner and a plotter. Everything he did he thought of the last detail."
The Duncans and Sandovals served on a four-family mission team in Vitoria, Brazil. David and Barbara Duncan were in Brazil from 1992 to 1999, and the Sandovals stayed even longer.
"He devoted a decade of his life to live out of the country to tell other people about Jesus," Duncan said. "He was a real man of God. His devotion to God did not stop when they moved back to the United States."
Hartman was a deacon at the South Yukon Church of Christ.
Memorial services are pending.
