Oklahoma Christian University (OC) professor, Dr. Don Drew, returned from the country of Rwanda where he had the opportunity to teach 30 Rwandan women business owners the introductory session of the Academy of Leadership & Liberty's (Academy) Peace Through Business program.
Drew's time in Rwanda was spent meeting with government officials, business people and educators about the future of Rwanda and its needs. He also spent many hours sifting through applications to choose the 30 women to be part of the Phase 1 training of the program. Phase 1 is designed to allow the women to network with each other as well as equip them with the necessary tools to continue their training at OC in July.
"The trip to Rwanda was inspiring on so many levels. Not only was I inspired by the natural beauty of the Rwandan hills and talent of the Rwandan people, I was also inspired by my colleague, Dr. Drew," stated Dr. Nathan Mellor, Executive Director of the Academy. "Although I work with him on a daily basis, seeing him in action in Rwanda was amazing. I knew he had traveled to more than 40 countries throughout his career and I knew he had an extensive knowledge of international business but witnessing him teach a group of 30 Rwandan women about the need for customer care and competitive advantage was remarkable. We are fortunate to have faculty of his caliber at OC."
Prior to entering academia, Drew served as Secretariat to the Joint Chiefs of Logistics, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. where he retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1994, and since that time as Senior Analyst to the B-2 Stealth Bomber program. He has consulted for various organizations including Seagate Technologies, the Oklahoma Governor's office, and the U.S. Air Force.
The Peace Through Business program is accomplished through the cooperation of the U.S. State Department, the government of Rwanda, the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women, the ROC Foundation, Oklahoma Christian University and the Academy of Leadership & Liberty.
