The following article appeared in the Daily Oklahoman on Saturday, January 5, 2008 about OC alumnus, Jim McWhirter (75):

Jim McWhirter's day was stacking up to be typically atypical.

As the owner of Gemini Builders, McWhirter spent a recent Friday morning conducting a tour of a 3,200-square-foot traditional-style home in Choctaw.

He ended the day officiating two "walk-in” weddings in his Ashland Gardens Wedding Facilities in Del City.

"I have to do a lot of things to be fulfilled,” he said. "I don't waste a lot of time sleeping. If I sleep more than four or five hours a night, I get a tremendous headache.”

On other days, McWhirter answers other callings.

As the newly installed president of the Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association, McWhirter expects to lead the 1,500-member group as it formulates stances on laws affecting immigration, environmental impact fees and fire sprinklers, among other issues.

He also continues work with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's underwater search-and-recovery team. He helped develop the team in 2000, just a few years before the Interstate 40 bridge collapse at Webber Falls that killed 14 people.

"Everything I do has some ministry to it,” McWhirter said.
