On October 4, 2007, Andy Hutchison, of Hutchison Homes was sworn in as 2008 president of the Texas Association of Builders, a statewide trade association that represents 14,000 building professionals throughout Texas and the 3rd largest state association in the within the National Association of Home Builders Federation.
As TAB’s 2007 Vice President and now 2008 President, Hutchison realizes the challenges that face the home building industry in Texas. He has been serving the building industry in Texas for over 10 years and is no stranger to leadership roles, either on the state or local level. He’s already built a lengthy resume of service to the West Texas Home Builders Association and TAB.
Born in Denver and raised in Oklahoma, Hutchison moved to Lubbock when he was 17. He attended Lubbock Christian University and Texas Tech University before graduating from Oklahoma Christian University with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance in 1993.
Hutchison, a third generation builder, joined his father in the home construction business upon college graduation in Oklahoma City. After getting married to Alison, he moved back to Lubbock and the home building industry there. He then worked for three years as a residential estimator and site superintendent for McDougal Construction.
In August of 1997, Hutchison started his own company, Hutchison Homes. The company builds five or six custom homes annually.
One year later, Hutchison participated in his first West Texas Home Builders Association’s Parade of Homes. The experience spurred him to become more active in the HBA, and he joined the Parade of Homes Committee. Hutchison has twice chaired both the Parade of Homes Committee and the Home and Garden Committee. His involvement in the local HBA expanded and he held a number of elected positions before becoming president in of the local association in 2003.
During his time of service at the local level, Hutchison also became active on the state level. He has served on several committees and as a member of TAB’s Board of Directors as chair of the Member Services Committee. He is currently the chair of the Local Presidents Council.
Hutchison has been married to Alison, who grew up in Brownfield, since 1994. They have five children, Amber, 7; Ashtyn, 3; and three one year olds: Addison, Bethany and Jackson.
Outside of the building industry arena, Hutchison stays busy working with his church, Green Lawn Church of Christ, and serving as vice president of Camp Blue Haven, a summer youth camp in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
