The Alumni Relations Office is currently sponsoring a Homecoming video contest. Students are encouraged to compete in this event; the winning video will receive $500.
Michael Mitchell, director of alumni relations, decided to allow students to participate in the creation of this year’s Alumni video. Alumni Relations has previously paid someone to create the video, but Mitchell decided it would be interesting to see what the students could do.
The student perspective will put an interesting spin on the video. The money normally spent paying someone to create the video will be given to the creator of the winning video. Depending on participation and interest this year, the Alumni Relations Video Contest could become an annual event in conjunction with Homecoming.
“We’re not sure what to expect from the contest. We’re just waiting to see what happens,” Mitchell said.
The creativity of students plays a huge role in this contest. There are only three guidelines: the videos have to be between three and five minutes in length, Oklahoma Christian University-themed and the video must highlight a positive aspect of Oklahoma Christian.
The Alumni Relations Office is looking for videos showcasing what’s happening on campus. They hope someone who hasn’t visited the campus in several years will be able to watch the video and know what’s going on at Oklahoma Christian.
This contest demands individuality and thought from the students. The videos will be judged on originality, cinematography, creativity, humor, content and musical score.
“I’ve seen videos on YouTube that were created by students just for fun. That’s what we are looking for. We want something creative and original,” Mitchell said.
Videos must be submitted by Friday, Oct. 26 at noon. Two DVD copies, labeled with the student’s name, e-mail address and phone number, need to go to the Alumni Relations Office. Videos should also be uploaded to YouTube. This link should be e-mailed to email@example.com.
Questions should be sent to Michael Mitchell at (405) 425-5110 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The winning video will be announced and shown at Homecoming Chapel on Nov. 10.
