changed this year, making it possible for the communications department
to combine with the athletic marketing effort.
Oklahoma Christian hopes this change can help bring more recognition to the university’s student-athletes and coaches.
Wes McKinzie serves as the Associate Director of Athletic Marketing
and Communications. He also oversees the athletic marketing initiatives
and serves as Associate Director in the Marketing Office.
“We want them to receive the attention and coverage they deserve,
regardless of their sport,” McKinzie said. “We have a lot of things we
want to do and a lot of things we want to improve on, but our
administration has made some things possible over the past couple of
years that have enhanced what we do for all of our athletic programs.”
The structure changed with the retirement of long time Sports
Information Director Stan Green, who retired from the position at the
end of last year.
“The structure has changed to integrate our athletic marketing and
communications efforts within the same office, but that is really the
only change,” McKinzie said. “We’re still handling the same
responsibilities as before.”
The change in structure has also allowed McKinzie to be more involved in areas of athletic communications.
“We hope the combination of our athletic marketing and
communications offices will make us more efficient and effective,”
McKinzie said. “The main change this year is that I’m now directly
involved in our communications and sports information efforts, working
with Dave Seat, our new athletic communications coordinator.”
Seat handles most of the day-to-day sports information duties
previously handled by Green, while McKinzie focuses on publications.
“David Seat has done a tremendous job stepping into his role,”
McKinzie said. “We stay really, really busy juggling all the sports
and the various responsibilities, but I enjoy my job, and I love
working here at Oklahoma Christian.”
Green still provides support to Seat and McKinzie during this transition.
“We certainly don’t want anything to fall through the cracks, and
Stan has been a great resource through this transition to make sure
that doesn’t happen,” McKinzie said. “Stan is a sports information Hall
of Famer so we definitely want to keep doing the good things he did.
“He was an important person behind the scenes of a lot of the awards
that our student athletes won; it’s our responsibility to uphold that

“We hope it will lead to even stronger support, involvement and media coverage in the years to come,” McKinzie said.
McKinzie also plans to better their efforts with more information
provided through the athletic web site and pay more attention to other
areas like the OCPY awards, an awards program that honors various
athletic achievement at the end of the year.
“There are a lot of different ways we can deliver information and
highlight our student-athletes and coaches,” McKinzie said. “We’ve
added blogs and pod casts on oceagles.com and we’re going to enhance
what we do with audio and video.”
McKinzie also has some new ideas in addition to providing information on current athletes and coaches.
“Another personal goal I have is to do more and more to celebrate
our history. A lot of people have poured their heart and soul into
Oklahoma Christian Athletics through the years,” McKinzie said.
“Whether it’s something relatively small like a mention in a media
guide or web site, or something bigger like the Hall of Fame dinner and
other things we have planned.
“We want them to know that we remember them and that we appreciate how they represented Oklahoma Christian.”
